Willow Health was born from firsthand experience.
When co-founder and CEO Lauren Morrell experienced a mental health crisis, she saw — and felt — the gaps in our mental health care system. After being told it would take weeks to access intensive care, and with no other options available, she ended up in the emergency room.
As she began her own recovery, Lauren started speaking with others who had faced similar crises. She quickly realized she wasn’t alone. Every year, millions of people turn to emergency rooms for mental health care when no timely alternative exists.
Emergency rooms are rarely designed to adequately address mental health crises. At the same time, intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) — an essential stop on the road to recovery — often have long waitlists. The result is a critical gap in care: no option built for both urgency and sustained stabilization, two elements essential to keeping people safe and supporting recovery.
Willow Health was created to fill that gap.
Starting in New York State, our mission is to expand nationally so that anyone experiencing a mental health crisis can quickly access the life-saving care they need to begin building a better future.
